The Flag of Barbados has been in existence since 1966 and was designed by Mr. Grantley W. Prescod, the winner of a national flag design competition. The flag is made up of three vertical stripes of blue and gold. In the center is a broken black trident. The ultramarine represents the sea and sky and the gold color the sand. The broken trident represents the sea god Neptune and is symbolic of the island’s break from Britain. The three points of the trident represents the points of democracy.
