The flag of Georgia was originally dark red with a little flag in the left hand corner. This little flag was made up of two horizontal stripes: black on the top and white on the bottom. This flag was used from 1918-1921 and again from 1990-2004. From 1951-1990 under the Soviet Union, the flag was red with a sky blue sun in the left hand corner. In 2004 a new flag was born. It was white with a large red cross in the center. In each quarter there is a smaller red cross.
