Guinea-Bissau Flags

This flag was introduced in 1973, when Guinea-Bissau became independent from Portugal. It has two horizontal stripes of yellow and green. A vertical red stripe is also present on the left hand side. There is a black star in the center of the red stripe. Gold signifies mineral wealth, red the blood of those who lost their lives in the fight for independence, and green is for the forests. The black star represents the African people.
