Jordan Flags

The Jordan flag was adopted on April 16, 1928. Jordan was part of the Britain until its independence in 1946. The Jordan flag has been used since 1921 with the addition of the star in 1928. The seven-pointed star is thought to represent the first seven verses of the Koran, the Islamic holy book. The flag was adapted from the flag used in the Great Arab Revolt of 1916. Prior to 1916 Jordan was part of the Ottoman Empire and used a flag that was very similar to that of Turkey. The colors of the bands on the flag each represent one of the dynasties.
