Mongolia Flags

The Mongolian flag was adopted in 1992. The basic flag was designed in 1940. Mongolia was part of China until it received its independence in 1921. Sky blue is the country's national color. The red color used in the flag once represented communism but today is used to represent progress. The left red panel contains Buddhist symbols. This is the country's national emblem called a soyombo. It is said to represent fire, sun, moon, earth, water and the yin-yang symbol. The symbolism in the emblem means prosperity, contentment, the universe and the past, present and future. The middle circle is often interpreted as the yin-yang symbol to represent complementary opposing forces.
