Poland Flags

The current Poland flag was adopted on February 9, 1990. It incorporates red and white, the two national colors of Poland since 1831 when it first proclaimed independence from Russia. Poland lost its independence in 1939 but regained it again after WWII. The flag was then used again. The top half is white to signify peace. The bottom half is red to signify the blood lost in the fight for independence. The flag has remained unchanged even after the establishment of the Polish People's republic in 1947 and the Republic of Poland in 1989. Since 2004, May 2nd is celebrated as Flag Day in Poland.
