Saudi Arabia Flags

The Saudi Arabian flag was adopted on March 15, 1973. The flag features a full green background with white Arabic words, called the Shahada, inscribed in the center. A white sword points left underneath the Arabic inscription. Green is the traditional color of Islam and the Shahada is a Muslim statement of faith that translates to "there is no God but Allah and Mohammad is the Prophet of Allah". The white sword was added to the flag in 1906 as a symbol of justice and to represent Abdul Aziz Saud, the first Saudi King.
