Thailand Flags

This flag was originally plain red and used in1656-1688; different symbols were used by the navy, among them were a white elephant and a white chakra on the red flag. The next flag was designed by Rama IV and featured a white elephant on a red background. In 1916 a flag with 5 red and white horizontal stripes was developed. The central red stripe was twice as wide as the other stripes. In 1917 this central stripe was changed to blue. These colors were used in honor of the allies of Thailand in the First World War. The flag has remained the same since then.
