The Tonga flag features a red background with a white square on the top left side. The square has a red cross in the center. The flag was created in the 1860’s but was not made official until 1875. The cross represents Christianity, white symbolizes purity and red is symbolic of the blood the Christ shed for the people at his crucifixion. It is part of the Tongan constitution that the flag cannot be changed.
