Turkey Flags

The Turkey flag uses a red base with a white crescent moon and five-pointed star. The red color is a traditional Islamic color and was used by the Ottoman Empire who formerly ruled Turkey. The Turkey flag was used since 1844 but wasn't officially adopted until June 5, 1936. The original design used a green base but was changed in 1793 to red. The star was added in 1844. The Turkey flag is called "Ay Yildiz" which means, "moon star" in English. The crescent and star are Islamic symbols of good luck.
