Ordering the Correct Quantity of Wire Core Flagpole Rope 

Color 

You have a choice of four colors: white, brown, black, or silver. 

Diameter 

We offer three different thickness options for our wire core flagpole rope to accommodate different flagpole diameters: 1/4" for 2-4 in poles, 5/16" for 5-9 in poles, and 3/8" for poles 10 in or larger. 

Length 

To determine the length of rope needed, measure from the ground to the tip of your flagpole and order twice that height. This ensures you have enough excess rope to tie knots and wrap the halyard around the cleat when it is set at eye level, allowing your flag to fly freely. 

Quantity 

When placing an order on this page, each unit in the quantity (Qty) field equals one foot (1 ft). Therefore, enter the total length in feet you need. 

For example, if you have a 20 ft flagpole, you will need 40 ft of halyard rope, so the required quantity would be 40. 

Please be aware that every rope is cut to order from a 500 ft spool. If you order more than 500 ft, you will receive multiple pieces. 

For example, if you order 525 ft, you will receive two pieces: one measuring 500 ft and the other 25 ft.

When Should You Replace Your Halyard? 

Ideally, flagpole ropes should be replaced every year. However, selecting the right materials in combination with regular maintenance will dramatically lengthen the lifespan of flagpole ropes. It is important to inspect the rope for fraying each time you lower the flag. When you see wear on the flagpole rope, it is time to replace it. If you postpone this, you risk losing your flag or having it get damaged. 

When Should You Use Wire Core Halyard Rope? 

Standard polyester rope is suitable for most outdoor flagpoles, especially in places where theft isn't a major concern. However, wire-core halyards are the best choice in areas where theft is, unfortunately, a concern. Their sturdy polyester braiding and wire core make the rope hard to cut, as this type of rope requires bolt cutters to cut through. This offers extra protection and will give you peace of mind. 

What Thickness Should You Order? 

The ideal thickness of the wire core halyard rope depends on the flagpole's base diameter. You can easily calculate the thickness by dividing the base diameter by 3.14. Use the following guidelines: 

• Small to Medium poles (2" - 4" in diameter): use 1/4" halyard 

• Medium to Large poles (5" - 9" in diameter): choose 5/16" halyard 

• Extra-Large poles (10" or larger in diameter): select 3/8" halyard 
  
  

How Can a Flagpole Rope Be Changed While It's Still Fastened to the Flagpole? 

It is simple to replace a flagpole rope while it is still fastened to the flagpole. Simply follow these steps: 

• Cut the flagpole rope that is currently attached and leave it in place 

• Tape the end of the new rope to the old one, ensuring there is a flush connection 

• Thread the new rope through the pulley by pulling the old one 

• Carefully remove the old rope and replace it with the new one
