Liberia Flags

The Liberia flag bears a resemblance to the U.S. flag. With alternating stripes of red and white and a blue square in the top left corner with a white five-pointed star in the center that represents freedom, the Liberia flag bears a resemblance to the U.S. flag. There are eleven total stripes that symbolize the 11 signatories of the Liberian declaration of independence. The red and white colors are thought to represent courage and moral excellence. Liberia was originally recognized as a colony of the United States and was settled by American slaves in the 1800's. The Liberian flag was adopted in 1847 after gaining independence.
