Peru Flags

The Peru flag was adopted in 1825 following Peru’s independence from Spain in 1821. The original flag used four sections divided equally between red and white. The flag was modified in 1822 to three equal stripes of red, white and red. The Peruvian flag was designed by Jose de San Martin a general and leader in the fight for independence who is now considered a national hero. The red stripes represent the blood shed to gain freedom and the white stripe stands for peace.
