Democratic Republic of Congo Flags
The Congo Republic Democratic flag was first flown in 1877-1908. Used until 1960, when the country was called the Belgian Congo, it was a blue flag with a gold star in the center. When the Congo Republic gained independence, six stars were added to the left side. In 1963 the large star was moved to the left hand corner and no small stars appeared. A red stripe was added and went diagonally across the flag’s center. In 1966 to 1971 the star became smaller. It returned to the larger size in 2006 with a sky blue background. This is the modern flag we know today.
