The Rich History of Annin Flagmakers 

Annin Flagmakers was founded in 1847 and is a 6th generation, family-owned company. Created by Alexander Annin, the company began life as a ship chandler enterprise until it began focusing solely on flag manufacturing. The original store location at 99-101 Fulton Street in New York City gained the fond nickname "Old Glory Corner." As the company grew, it expanded to include another storefront at the corner of 16th Street in Manhattan. There, it would remain until its final move to New Jersey in 1960.  

Annin's popularity grew during the Civil War when the U.S. Signal Corps turned to the flag makers to craft high-quality American flags to showcase their dedication to the Union. The company became the country's foremost provider of American flags, and with the onset of World War II, it continued to grow. Annin flags have flown at some of the nation's most historical moments, including at President Lincoln's inauguration and funeral, the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, the first flag to fly at Iwo Jima, and even on the moon with the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. Annin flags were also used during the 10th-anniversary memorial for September 11th.
